Dear SPED 450 Students,
Welcome! You are part of a new and exciting development in the Department of Special Education –Special Education 450 offered fully online! During this session of SPED 450 there will be no face-to-face class meetings at all! We will conduct the entire course online using web-based resources, and possibly through online class meetings via the Wimba Live Classroom, a web conferencing tool for education that is integrated into the SDSU Blackboard system.
This blog is set up as a place for you to communicate with me and with your fellow classmates. When you have general questions about the course, you should ask those questions here. You should also check this blog frequently to see whether or not your question has already been asked and answered. All questions about course requirements, assignments, due dates, etc. should be posted to this blog, and NOT sent directly to me by email. If you have a question about a confidential issue such as grades, then it is OK to email me directly.
There are a couple of points about which you should be forewarned: First, since this course will be delivered completely online, the success of the course depends heavily on technology working as we expect. Please know that there is a possibility (perhaps even likelihood) that occasionally there will be ‘glitches.’ I’ll do my best to manage any issues on my end as they arise...but YOU must also ensure that the technology is working on your end. Be sure that you have consistent and reliable access to a high speed Internet connection, and ALWAYS use the Firefox browser when working in Blackboard. Internet Explorer and Blackboard won't get along very well for some components of the course. Second, although I have spent lots of time and energy designing and preparing this course for online delivery, teaching online is still a fairly new phenomenon at SDSU, and my skills are continually emerging as I learn something different each semester! It is my hope that you will find this experience both challenging and rewarding, as my efforts are directed toward these goals. And finally, the nature of an online course places MOST of the responsibility for learning on you, the student. To be successful in this course, you must independently complete ALL tasks and activities, as well as adhere to submission deadlines for all assignments and quizzes.
I look forward to working with you this semester!
Best regards,
Dr. McIntosh

how do you post a blog?

ReplyDeleteI do not see and option anywhere on the blackboard sight to take the test. Will it only be available the 12th?
ReplyDeleteThe syllabus says we need the book plus a ‘Premium Website’ access code. What is this? I bought the book from the Aztec book store and there was no code included as far as I can tell?
ReplyDeleteNicole and Sabrina, many thanks for posting your questions here!
ReplyDeleteNicole, the options to take quizzes and tests on Blackboard will not be available all of the time. I will tell you when the tests will 'open' and 'close', and you will need to take the test within the defined 'window'.
Sabrina,
There appears to be some confusion about the access code. Typically, new books from the bookstore come with the code prepackaged on a card on the front or back of the book. If you don't have it, don't worry for now. I'll let you know how to get an access code before it becomes necessary for assignments.
I accidentally clicked off the window while taking the syllabus exam. I understand there is no room for error, so do I take my uncompleted score as my grade for the syllabus exam?
ReplyDeleteI just finished taking the syllabus exam and i received a 42.01 out of 50.01. Is there any way to look at which questions were wrong/right? I don't see how I could have missed 8 points.
ReplyDeletehi, how do you look at your syllabus quiz score again? i already saw it but wanted to double check my score. thanks
ReplyDeletejim: you can go to course tools and click grades and it should be the one listed on the bottom. hope this helped
ReplyDeletethanks Thuy
ReplyDeleteDo we have to do the "Optional Learning Activities" and "Professional Standards" under Module 1?
ReplyDeleteI want to make sure I don't miss anything. For the video do you want us to do anything other than view it? For the Iris Star Legacy do you want us to answer "all" questions or just view it? For the websites at the end of each chapter do you want us to do a Web Exploration assignment for them? And like Thanh-Thuy said do you want us to do the optional learning? Thank you for your help, I just want to make sure I do everything and do it right.
ReplyDelete@SPED450 Online: Can you please post how to get an access code when we need one on this blog? Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteSincerely, Ashleigh Britt
Ashleigh, I'm not too sure if you are asking for the access code becuase of the tutorial quizzes and the exams but I think if you go under Module 1 and click the apply tab you can access the quizzes as well as the exams.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone else can verify please do because I'm not 100%sure.
Yes, the tutorial quizzes is under Module 1, under "apply" and click to Textbook companion website resource. The exam is not up yet until 9/27, according to the syllabus.
ReplyDeleteI had emailed you earlier about the syllabus quiz. I was in the middle of taking the quiz when my computer froze and I was kicked off blackboard. When I went back to finish my quiz it wouldn't allow me to access the quiz and finish it. I am worried about my grade and I was hoping and wondering if there was any way I could finish the quiz?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if we need to buy the access code? If so, where did you buy it from? I am renting a new book from the bookstore and it didn't come with a code. I called today and they said as of 8/10/10 the professor is not requiring the purchase of a code yet the syllabus says we need one...I have checked out Module 1 on blackboard and it doesnt seem like we need a code for anything...
ReplyDeleteYou don't need a code just go to this website to do the chapter quizes. http://tiny.cc/lz1x8
ReplyDeleteon the schedule list it says that we have to do the tutorial quizs, and enrichment assignments, and exams. does anyone know where we can find the enrichment assignment?
ReplyDeleteoh never mind i guess we dont have to do the enrichment for module 1 cause on the grades thing there is no grade section for module 1 but there is one for module 2.
ReplyDeleteDo we need to answer the questions to the Star Legacy Module?
ReplyDeleteI am SO confused! So for module 1 there are no Module Enrichment Assignments? Because I have been looking for them and I can't find them.
ReplyDeleteIs there a module 1 assignment? I looked at the assignment tab and there is nothing there. Can anyone direct me to the correct site. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI just took the Chapter 5 quiz and was wondering if the question was worded incorrectly or if I didn't read it right. Question #5 states: The contemporary emphasis on building family-professional partnerships implies all of the following except: The answer was "families are full and equal partners with professionals" but on page 132 it directly states that is what is DOES imply. I'm confused,if I'm reading this incorrectly could someone please clarify. Thanks
ReplyDeleteRegarding whether or not you need to have a google account: You need to create a blog account but you can use your own email, you don't need a google email to post. Hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteKevin and Khou: After you click on the course link you should see a tab on the left side that says module 1.
ReplyDelete@ Amber: Thanks, however, I did look into module 1 and see that there is a video, iris center website, and directions for the tutorial quizzes, but nothing that directly states what the assignment is. Are we suppose to just read through what is posted?
ReplyDeleteKevin- I am seeing the same thing as you. I dont think we have an assignment but im not sure. Maybe we should email our teacher....?
ReplyDelete@Marie: According to her blog, unless it is a confidential issue then we can, but if not then it is suggested that we write it here. Do you think that maybe module 1 assn. is to make sure that we mark the bubble for both the video and iris center website as "marked viewed?"

ReplyDeleteHey everyone, I don't know how long it has been there, but there is now a list of our required assignments under the assignments tab :)
ReplyDeletethe blackout effected the submission of my exam. It says incomplete. It says on the syllabus there is no excuse for incomplete exams, but what am I supposed to do about the blackout?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when our grades for the enrichment assignments will be posted? Its hard to keep working on Modules if I dont know how well I am doing.....
ReplyDeleteHas anyone had a problem accessing exam 3? My screen went blank and then it said the assessment was completed. Im just curious if anyone else is having this same problem
